I went to visit some friends from ages past. We had not seen each other for years. As we were saying hello one of them said, “You look great!” They quickly followed it up with, “That might not be how you are feeling, but you look great. Dan, how are you really feeling?”
At that moment my heart was filled with joy. I was filled with joy for two reasons. First, I could honestly answer that I was feeling and doing fine. Beyond “looking great” I was truly feeling good. Secondly, my friend recognized and acknowledged the deep truth that sometimes those with a long-term illness may appear “okay” while in reality, they are struggling to put one foot in front of the other.
Just today I came across a blog post by Stacy Hurt that really captures what I mean. She writes with an honesty and openness that captures the truth of what those struggling with a long-term illness often feel.
I share it with you here. “Define Fine”
I have also added a link to her blog on this page, there is a lot of good stuff worth checking out.
**May the rest of your day be filled with wonder and amazement as you are yet again surprised by the gift & grace of God.**
“The Journey Continues” is my story of learning to fight and then live with stage IV colon cancer. I share openly and honestly how the words spoken by a stranger totally changed life as I knew it, and how Abba Father met me in the midst of the journey. Nancy, my wife, joins me in writing. She shares with great vulnerability of how my cancer challenged her in every area of life.
