We all have a certain way of looking at the world.
The lens, our perspective, impacts how we see people, experience relationships, and respond to events within our world.
For decades I moved with the lens of a problem solver. I would look at a situation and think through everything that might go wrong, so I would be ready to help navigate our way through any and every potential problem.
I was good at guiding people and groups through difficult situations. Having thought about everything that might go wrong, I could respond calmly and quickly. Rarely was I surprised.
The problem? Over time I began to see potential problems behind every corner.
Problems that never materialized. I wasted energy preparing responses for problems that never came to be.
My lens was faulty. It was not helping me see the world correctly. Over time I have worked to “clean” my lens and view the world differently.
We all have a lens through which we see the world.
Richard Rohr challenges us to live with a Gospel Lens.
I find his words challenging and hope-filled.
May we all move through this world with a gospel lens, the lens of Jesus.
